There are many parts that play in an Eating Disorder Disease. They are mostly classified into two main categories, Anorexia and Bulimia. One of the many parts that play a big part in this disease is the careers we choose as our life times work. For example; Ballerinas, are constantly told if they do not loose more weight they will never make it to high standards of a Prima Ballerina, or models, who are always being told the camera puts ten pounds on you already, Figure Skaters are told your partner will not be able to pick you up if you put on another five pounds. Dancers, actresses or actors. That is right; it was once referred to a woman?s disease, not anymore. We are seeing a growing number of trends of males checking themselves into Eating Disorder Clinics.
How about another form of Eating Disorder? This is the Overeaters who are highly addictive to food. They need food, like a drug addict needs his fix. These Overeaters are literally eating themselves to death. After they reach certain weight poundage, they are considered obese. Along with being obese, come a lot of medical problems.
The overeaters recognize that their weight is accelerating, but eating just like with any other addictions, fills a void emptiness inside. Also, just like with any other addictive behavior, while eating it seems to relieve the pain and hopeless inside but after the food is gone here come the shame and embarrassment inside. Then the next day, it starts all over again.
I believe our Higher Power had an idea in mind to not make us all the same. Some of us are short, tall, heavy, slim, muscular, etc. Just think of the world if we all looked the same. There would be no attraction, love at first sight, no one to look at and say they are different from me but so what.
You have children who have been studying all their lives to become ballerinas. Most of these young adults are already very petite and thin boned. The competition in this field is so intense that the last thing an aspiring ballerina needs to hear is ?If you just lose another ten pounds you will stand a better chance at getting the lead role?. This is something this person has been aspiring to all their lives. What little lives they have thus far led. The instructors, teachers, and choreographer are the ones who plant the seed into these children at such an early age to where they sometimes develop into eating disorders.
You have children going after the gold in the world of gymnastics. This is one of the most highly competitive fields in the Olympics today. In order to excel in this field you must maintain a very minimum weight normally below 100 pounds.
You do not have to be in any of those fields to develop an eating disorder. You can be your average teenager, who might have had to of go through Junior High slightly overweight and your peers made you feel very alone and ostracized from the rest of the school. By time the time you reach High School, you will be at the point that you will do anything to try to fit in. Even if it means developing an eating disorder.
Anorexia Nervosas
The first category, we will discuss in called Anorexia Nervosas. THis eating disorder can be described as it laymen terms as ?Starving yourself to Death?. When you have this type of disorder, you completely lost the will to eat. There are certain functions you will have to attend or if you are hiding this disorder from your family, you will eat but you will take a laxative shortly after eating your meal. This is to get rid of the food intake out of your system, as soon as possible before it gets a chance to digest and turn into fat. As the disease progresses you completely stop eating altogether. Your body begins to turn into bones and flesh. Yet every time you look into that mirror, you will see a fat person standing before you, no matter how much weight you lose.
Bulimia
This part of the eating disorder is when a person begins to binge eat and when they are through, they purposely stick their fingers down their throats to make themselves vomit.
This part of the disorder is called Bulimia. You will find more models, actresses, sports persons and people in the spotlight uses this form of eating disorder, because they can sit at a table and eat a normal meal, and when the meal is over excuse themselves to the bathroom to perform the act.
This disorder can be easily hidden and disguised because there is no drastic weight loss and changes in a person appearance. However, it is just as deadly, because between making yourself vomit, you are also destroying the lining of your stomach and throat. Ulcers begin to develop at a young age.
Over Eaters
Over Eating disorders is an extremely dangerous form of eating disorder, because after you reach to point considered obese and can not stop eating, then you know you have a problem. Being overweight has its problems but being grossly overweight can be life threatening. Along with just having a weight problem also comes along the medical issues. Medical issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, bone problems, respitory problems, etc. All these medical issues can result in heart attacks and strokes.
Treatment Plans
There are several different treatment plans a person with an eating disorder can take. One thing they have to keep in mind is THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THEY WILL BE DEALING WITH FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. Just like with any other type of addiction, you will have to fight this disease for the rest of your life. They have Eating Disorder Clinics, diet programs and other options to aim for in the end. There are many psychologists who specialize in this field. Find one that you are comfortable with and weigh all your options and whatever option you decide on, stick with it. Just remember,
This is a disorder that you will have to fight for the rest of your life.
